Nonnus Panoplitanus was the author of Paraphrasis in Ioannis Evangelium, which is actually a translation, written in hexameters, of the biblical book. In this paper we translate and comment a fragment (10, 1-18). We also try to show, by this brief example, how the poet assumes the Greek literary tradition, with a view to express new contents. In our conclusion we make a comparison with three stanzas of El Evangelio criollo, an Argentinian poem which translated the Scripture with the meter of Martín Fierro (Argentina‘s national poem).
